چکیده

The spin-wave modes in nanoscale permalloy stripes are studied using Brillouin light scattering for the case where an external magnetic field is applied transversely to the length of the stripes. By adjusting the magnitude of this external field, the overall magnetization may be varied between the approximately transverse and longitudinal orientations. The observed spin-wave frequencies are analysed using a recently developed microscopic dipole-exchange theory that is particularly appropriate when the magnetization displays strong spatial inhomogeneity. Comparison between theory and experiment for the two sizes of stripes studied gives fairly good agreement, allowing the magnetic parameters of permalloy to be deduced. A small magnetic anisotropy of the easy-plane type is shown to play an important role. & 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Spin wave nonreciprocity and magnonic band structure in thin permalloy film induced by dynamical coupling with an array of Ni stripes

An efficient way for the control of spin wave propagation in a magnetic medium is the use of periodic patterns known as magnonic crystals (MCs). However, the fabrication of MCs especially bi-components, with periodicity on nanoscale, is a challenging task due to the requirement for sharp interfaces. An alternative method to circumvent this problem is to use homogeneous ferromagnetic film with m...

Brillouin light scattering investigations of structured permalloy films

The static and spin wave properties of regular square lattices of magnetic dots of 0.5–2 mm dot diameter and 1–4 mm periodicity patterned in permalloy films have been investigated by Brillouin light scattering. The samples have been structured using x-ray lithography and ion beam etching. The Brillouin light scattering spectra reveal both surface and bulk spin wave modes. The spin wave frequenc...

Thermal Effects Study on Stimulated Brillouin Light Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fiber

we investigate the temperature-dependences of the Brillouin frequency shift in three different kind of single-mode fibers using a heterodyne method for sensing temperature. Positive dependences coefficients of 0.77, 0.56 and 1.45MHz/0C are demonstrated for 25 km long single-mode fiber, 10 km long non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and 100 m photonic crystal fiber, respectively. The results indic...

Micro-focused Brillouin light scattering: imaging spin waves at the nanoscale

Spin waves are the elementary excitations of the spin system in a magnetically ordered material state and magnons are their quasi particles. In the following article, we will discuss Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy which is now a well-established tool for the characterization of spin waves. BLS is the inelastic scattering of light from spin waves and confers several benefits: the ...
